A bantamweight contenders match up of Brad Pickett vs. Michael McDonald has been announced for UFC on FOX Sports 1 #1 on Aug. 17, 2013 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Two of the top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight contenders will clash at the inaugural UFC on FOX Sports 1 event in Boston, Mass., on Aug. 17, 2013 as Brad Pickett takes on Michael McDonald.

Even though Pickett is coming off a win and McDonald suffered a loss in his last outing, “Mayday” is actually ahead of “One Punch” in the official UFC rankings and both men sit in the top-five of the division.

Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting reported news of the 135-pound contest on Tuesday’s (June 4, 2013) edition of FUEL TV‘s “UFC Tonight” news program.

Pickett (23-7) actually called for a match up with McDonald after his UFC on FUEL TV 9 victory over Mike Easton and was fortunate to have his wish granted by the UFC matchmakers.

The 34-year-old has been hot and cold in terms of winning and losing since joining the UFC roster in late 2011, but one thing he has consistently delivered is exciting fights as he has won a post-fight bonus in four of his five Octagon appearances.

McDonald (15-2) is coming off his first mixed martial arts (MMA) defeat in nearly four years at the hands of interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao at UFC on FUEL TV 7 in Feb. 2013.

At 22 years of age, the American is one of the youngest fighters on the UFC roster and how he comes back from a defeat in a championship main event fight on the world’s biggest stage will be telling of his mental strength and character.

With the UFC on FOX Sports 1 #1 card getting more stacked by the day with fights such as Chael Sonnen vs. Mauricio Rua and Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne, it’s unknown at this time where Pickett vs. McDonald will fit on the historic fight card from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
